Historic Tuscaloosa will continue its summertime lecture series on Thursday, August 28, at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Cameron Lacquement will present his lecture on “The History of the Walker Cemetery - An Early 19th Century Cemetery of Tuscaloosa.” This event is open to the public and free of charge.
Dr. Lacquement, an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Anthropology Department at the University of Alabama, will discuss the history and changes of an early 19th-century family cemetery in Tuscaloosa. Historically known as the Walker cemetery, Old Boys Colony at Munny Sokol Park, the site had been “completely lost to time,” but could be the first unsegregated cemetery in Tuscaloosa County. He will also discuss the different grave styles, changes to the cemetery into the early 20th century, and cemetery preservation/restoration.
