Cameo Guild of Tuscaloosa-The Cameo Guild is a group of young women, local high school juniors and seniors, who are nominated by their peers and members of the Tuscaloosa community for membership in the group which is sponsored by Historic Tuscaloosa. They learn about history throughout Tuscaloosa County and the state of Alabama, contribute to their community by completing service projects and sponsoring fund-raising events to meet Historic Tuscaloosa needs, serve as representatives at Historic Tuscaloosa events, and experience working together as a group in order to accomplish specific goals.

The Cameo Guild’s fundraising events consist of an annual Easter Egg Hunt planned by the junior class and a fall Heritage 5K and Fun Run/Walk planned by the senior class. Each year the Cameo Guild, through these fundraising efforts, maintains a scholarship fund and makes a generous gift to Historic Tuscaloosa using the remaining proceeds.  These gifts make the Historic Tuscaloosa properties much more appealing to the public, which in turn brings in revenue that helps maintain these wonderful structures.

After completing two years of service, these young women are presented at a special event in the spring where scholarships and awards of excellence are given to those whose service has been exemplary.

Annual Events

Heritage 5K Run

The annual Cameo' 5k Run is a fun-for-all-ages family event hosted every October. Creative costumes, tutus, and memory-making are encouraged! Benefits from the run go towards the Belles scholarship fund and a project on one of the Historic Tuscaloosa properties.

Easter Egg Hunt

This family friendly party is hosted every spring at the Battle-Friedman Home and includes carnival games, a petting zoo, refreshments, a raffle and, of course, an egg hunt and visit from the Easter Bunny.

Senior Presentation

The Cameo Senior Presentation is the culmination of all our members' hard work and is held during late Spring. This event signals the conclusion of the graduating Cameos' participation in the organization.

Becoming a Belle

The Tuscaloosa Cameos are nominated each year by members of the Century Club of Historic Tuscaloosa and by current Cameos. They are approved for membership after an application and interview process. Cameo applicants must be entering their junior year of high school. The application process begins in the spring with interviews conducted during the summer months. For more information, reach out to the Cameo Director below.
